International Symposium on
Wild Boar and Other Suids

6-9 September 2022 – Seva, Barcelona

The International Symposium on Wild Boar and Other Suids will take place in Montanyà Hotel & Lodge, Montseny Biosphere Reserve (Catalonia, Spain).

The Symposium will include thematic sessions covering wild boar biology and eco-ethology as well as management practice, population control strategies and damage mitigation methods. Other Suids from all over the world such as Babirusas, Warthogs, Bushpigs or Pigmy hogs will also be included in the Conference.

Wild boar is one of the most successful mammal species in Europe and in the worldwide. Their populations are expanding in number and range, colonising any type of habitats and regions, from the highest mountains to lowlands and urban areas. The challenge of controlling wild boar population growth and mitigating the economic and environmental impacts of this species will be the main topic of this Symposium. Traditional conflicts, added to new risks such as the expansion of African Swine Fever, require new approaches to manage wild boar population and impacts. Evidence-based management combined with scientific and applied knowledge is now needed more than ever to mitigate human-wild boar conflicts.

This Symposium will provides the opportunity to meet in-person for the first time in four years. There is a lot of new knowledge and practice to share about wild boar and other Suids. The venue in a natural area close to Barcelona, is a wonderful place to bring together scientists and practitioners working on these species. LINK
